  • Lucas started his professional career at Grêmio Porto Alegre
  • In 2006 he has won for Grêmio the Rio Grande do Sul state championship and climbed in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A on 3rd place
  • A brazilian magazines elect Lucas to the best youngest player who have ever played in the Campeonato Brasileiro, amongst others have honour Romario, Kaka’, Zico, Falcao, Careca and Tevez.
  • In October 2006, he made his debut in the national team of Brazil against an Kuwaiti league club "Al-Kuwait" (not an official Fifa event) and Equador. He was one of two players who not played in European Leagues.
  • In 2007 Lucas ascend to the captain of the brazilian national team U-20. The team won under his leading the 2007 South American Youth Championship, where he made 4 goals for his team. Because of an injury he couldn't play for three weeks. And his national team musted to play without Lucas in the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada. To this time he would withdrawal from captain of the brazilian under-20 team.
  • On 13th May in 2007 FC Liverpool confirmed the acquisition of him. He comes for around 8 million Euros from Gremio Porto Alegre
